NMC Process

Nurses working in the UK have to be registered with NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) that adheres to strict code of conduct & standard. NMC is the largest healthcare regulator in the UK. Its purpose is to promote & uphold the highest professional standards in nursery and midwifery to protect public and inspire confidence in the profession. It was established on 2002 & sets standards of education, training, practice and conduct for nurses & midwives.

Every candidate aspiring to become a nurse or midwife is required to adhere to these standards in terms of documentation, qualification, character & work ethics. NMC expects nurses to have necessary qualification, experience & competency to be able to provide best possible care to the patients. Registration with NMC is the most critical step & requires significant skill & therefore our advisors assist candidates in their application.


To register with NMC, the first step is to have below

  1. Registered Nurse practicing nursing bedside for min 6 months in a country of native English or English as the first language
  2. Knowledge of English by producing an IELTS or OET test certification with minimum score required (details listed on this page-Click this link)

Next is the Competency based test Part 1 & Part 2

  1. Part 1 of the Competency based test is clearing the CBT
  2. Part 2 of the Competency based test is clearing the OSCE

NOTE:
  • Points 1, 2 & 3 are to be fulfilled within your home country
  • Point 4 to be completed once you arrive in the UK & once you pass the OSCE; you register as a Nurse with NMC with your employer.
